ICE Held Milo Yiannopoulos in Louisiana and Put Him on a Plane to Britain

Milo Yiannopoulos, the British commentator and former Breitbart senior editor, was deported from the United States to the United Kingdom on Friday, August 29. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained him the previous evening at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and held him at a facility in Alexandria, Louisiana, where the agency’s detainee locator confirmed his custody.

The Paperwork That Ended It

Yiannopoulos entered the United States legally on May 14, arriving through New York City. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal against him on July 22 after he failed to appear at his hearing. That order is what ICE executed in New Orleans five weeks later.

He was in Louisiana to attend a concert by Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, on whose 2024 presidential campaign Yiannopoulos had worked.

The Statement

The Department of Homeland Security framed the removal as a policy correction rather than an individual case. “DHS reversed the horrendous Biden-era policy that allowed aliens in our country illegally to jet around our country,” the agency said.

The line is notable for what it does not do. It does not mention Yiannopoulos by name, does not reference his political work, and does not distinguish him from any other person subject to a final removal order. He was treated, in the department’s own telling, as a category rather than a person.

A Decade of American Visibility Ends in a Detention Center

Yiannopoulos spent much of the last ten years as one of the most recognizable British figures in American political media, through the Breitbart years, the campus tour circuit, the 2017 book deal that collapsed, the platform bans, and most recently the Ye campaign. None of that appears anywhere in the record that removed him. What removed him was a missed hearing date and a judge’s order.

What Happens Next

A final order of removal carries a bar on reentry, the length of which depends on the grounds and on any prior immigration history. Neither DHS nor Yiannopoulos’s representatives have said publicly what bar applies in his case, or whether he intends to contest it from Britain.
