Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez was stabbed multiple times during a violent altercation in downtown Indianapolis on October 4, 2025, while in the city to call a Colts game. He was hospitalized in critical condition. Sanchez was subsequently arrested and charged with battery with injury - later upgraded to a Level 5 felony - along with unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication. Fox Sports confirmed Sanchez was no longer employed by the network approximately one month after the incident.
The Altercation
According to court documents and police reports, Sanchez approached a box truck driven by 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole in an alley between two downtown Indianapolis hotels. Video footage showed Sanchez following Tole as he attempted to back away, and allegedly grabbing and throwing Tole against the wall. Tole, claiming he feared for his life, stabbed Sanchez multiple times in the upper torso. Tole also sustained injuries during the altercation. His attorney stated he acted in self-defense, believing Sanchez was “trying to kill him.”
Sanchez was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. His attorney noted he was still recovering from his injuries weeks after the incident and that Sanchez reportedly had no memory of the altercation. Indianapolis Police Chief Chris Bailey stated publicly: “I don’t care who you are. I don’t care what you do for a living… If you come into our city and commit violence, we’ll use all the tools at our disposal to hold you accountable.”
Legal Charges and Career Fallout
The initial battery charge was upgraded to a Level 5 felony, carrying a potential sentence of one to six years in Indiana. Fox Sports confirmed Sanchez’s departure from the network approximately one month after the stabbing. His family issued a statement saying they were focused on his recovery.
Sanchez’s ex, identified as Bobby T and the mother of his son, posted on social media: “Sadly, none of this is surprising to me… I have always been concerned for [Daniel’s] safety and for what he is exposed to.” The case was pending further legal proceedings as of initial reporting.
