Michael J. Fox received two standing ovations at the 2026 Emmy Awards while accepting the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, using the rare honor to thank the family members who have lived beside him through decades of Parkinson’s disease.

Fox specifically thanked his wife, Tracy Pollan, and their four adult children for their sacrifices, patience and love. The moment turned an industry award into something more personal: a public acknowledgment that his advocacy and illness have shaped an entire family, not only his own life.

The award recognized work beyond acting

The Television Academy gave Fox the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his work supporting Parkinson’s research and advocacy. The award is not presented every year and has gone to only a small group of recipients since it was created.

Fox founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000 after publicly disclosing his diagnosis in 1998. The foundation has since funded more than $3 billion in Parkinson’s research, according to the Television Academy and Fox’s foundation.

His family was central to the speech

People reported that Fox attended with Pollan and their children and used the speech to credit them directly. That family focus separated the moment from a conventional career retrospective.

Fox has often discussed how Parkinson’s changed his work, mobility and public identity. At the Emmys, he framed the long campaign in terms of the people who absorbed the private cost of that public mission with him.
