Actor Stewart McLean Killed in Homicide Investigation

Canadian authorities announced Friday that television actor Stewart McLean has been found dead in Lions Bay, British Columbia, after being reported missing on May 18. McLean, 45, had not been seen since May 15, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), which launched its investigation after Squamish RCMP uncovered evidence suggesting foul play.

Who McLean Was

McLean appeared regularly as a guest actor across Canadian and U.S. television productions over the past decade. He is best known for roles in the series “Beyond” and “Travelers,” and appeared in more than 30 productions throughout his career. His most recent work was a guest appearance on Netflix’s “Virgin River,” where he played a barfly in a 2026 episode.

The Investigation Unfolds

Officers with Squamish RCMP initially received the missing person report on May 18. In subsequent announcements, authorities said they were “very concerned for Stewart’s health and well-being.” By May 21, investigators had uncovered enough evidence to transfer the case to IHIT, transitioning it from a missing person inquiry to a homicide investigation. IHIT took over the case on May 20 and began work on May 21, according to official statements.

Investigators are building a timeline of McLean’s activities before May 15 by analyzing physical evidence, CCTV footage, and conducting interviews. Officials have indicated they are pursuing all available leads but have not disclosed details about the specific evidence that led them to classify the death as a homicide.

Remembering McLean

News of McLean’s death prompted tribute from his agency, Lucas Talent Inc. Jodi Caplan, an agent who represented McLean for more than 10 years, posted a statement describing him as “dedicated, professional, eager, and endlessly funny.” Casting directors across the industry reached out with condolences, Caplan said, with many emphasizing what a valued member of the creative community McLean had been.

The Path Forward
