Woman Faces Felony After Striking Child on Disney Flight

A Maryland woman has been charged with felony child cruelty after allegedly striking a minor aboard an Allegiant Air flight departing Orlando-Sanford International Airport on May 27, 2025. Kristy L. Crampton, 46, was traveling on a return flight from Disney World bound for Hagerstown, Maryland, when a verbal dispute with a child allegedly escalated into physical contact before the aircraft left the gate. She was arrested at the gate following intervention by the flight crew and airport police.

The Dispute Before Departure

According to police, the altercation had roots in tension that developed during the Disney World trip itself. Crampton told officers that the child had been verbally disrespectful throughout the vacation. Once passengers were seated on the aircraft, the situation intensified. One witness reported that Crampton struck the child with her fist and a water bottle and made contact with his head against the airplane window. Another passenger described the child making verbal remarks for approximately two minutes before Crampton allegedly retaliated. The police affidavit characterized the interaction as abuse rather than discipline, according to court documents.

The pilot requested law enforcement assistance before the aircraft departed. Crampton was removed from the plane and arrested at the gate by Sanford Airport Police. The child was not publicly identified, and the relationship between Crampton and the minor has not been officially disclosed. The boy’s family declined to issue further statements.

Charges and Court Proceedings

Crampton was charged with one count of cruelty toward a child without great bodily harm, which constitutes a felony under Florida law. She appeared before Seminole County court on May 28, 2025, and was released on a $10,000 bond. The presiding judge issued a no-contact order barring any communication with the child involved in the case.

The FBI was notified of the incident due to its occurrence aboard a commercial aircraft, and further federal review was possible. The flight’s departure from Orlando was delayed.
