Florida Murder Defendant Gave Birth in Jail After Allegedly Conceiving Child With Fellow Inmate

Daisy Link, a Florida woman on trial for the 2022 murder of her partner Pedro Jimenez, gave birth in June 2024 to a daughter while incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County. The child’s father, Joan Depaz - a fellow inmate also held on murder charges - says the two never met in person or had any physical contact. Miami-Dade Corrections launched an internal investigation into how the conception was possible under the facility’s security protocols.

The Alleged Method

Link and Depaz told local media they communicated by passing notes and pictures through air conditioning vents in their adjacent cells, developing a romantic relationship. To overcome the physical barrier, they tied bedsheets together to create a line between the vents. Depaz said he collected his semen, wrapped it in Saran Wrap, and attached it to the line; Link pulled it into her cell and administered it using yeast infection applicators. Both described the successful conception as a miracle.

Depaz compared the conception to a Biblical event, stating the two never had physical contact. Link called their daughter a “miracle baby” and a “blessing” in a jailhouse interview. The baby was born in June 2024 and now lives with Link’s family outside of jail. Both parents remain incarcerated and maintain contact with their daughter through phone calls and video visits.

The Underlying Criminal Cases

Link’s murder trial began in Miami on October 8, 2025. She is charged with fatally shooting Jimenez in 2022. Prosecutors allege she misled police by pretending to discover him already wounded. Her defense admits she fired the shot but argues self-defense, describing Jimenez as “unhinged” and “dangerous.” Depaz’s murder trial was separately scheduled for May 2025. The Miami-Dade Department of Corrections continued its investigation into how the facility’s security protocols were circumvented.
